This is an example of the food that is served to the migrants in the Cavarzerani camp. On November 15, during the night, they started a protest against the revolting slop that is prepared for them by the CAMST food service (which has various headquarters in Udine). Additionally, the migrants cannot prepare their own food autonomously, as it has been forbidden by the Red Cross “soldiers” who manage the camp. Instead, they have to gather in a dining hall without heating, an element that is also missing in their dorms.
In the recent past, the camp has held up to 400-500 people. After the first demonstration outside the camp on December 15, however, as much as 150 migrants were transferred to other cities (Roma, Napoli, Torino…). Those who weren’t deported are facing even stricter rules than before, as they have to show their document and identification bracelet three times a day so as not to be denied their meals. Tardiness, even a 5-minute delay, is sanctioned with humiliating punishments, such as cleaning shifts.
The camp doctor, who visits a maximum of 10 people per day to avoid getting worn out, dumps paracetamol on anyone for any type of problem.
A migrant was admitted to hospital for 22 days, but the ambulance was called an hour and a half late, and only after repeated complaints. When he came back, he was asked where he had been (even though the hospital doctor had called the Red Cross guards to inform them) and was told that he had been deleted from the building’s register. At first he was also denied his pocket money, and managed to receive it only after insisting.
Legal assistance is not available.
In the summer of 2018, different people from the so-called “reception network” committed suicide in Udine: all the deaths were dismissed by the media and the police as the consequences of self-harm. At least two of them happened in the Cavarzerani camp.
The people living in the camp also reported that a boy with obvious signs of emotional and psychological instability was found dead in his room inside one of the facilities; he was then allegedly brought away by the police during the night and his body was found hanging from a big tree in front of the entrance gate the next morning.
Questo è un esempio del cibo destinato ai migranti nel campo della Cavarzerani, che nella notte del 15 novembre scorso hanno dato vita ad una protesta in risposta a questo schifo quotidiano preparato dall’azienda della ristorazione CAMST (con diverse sedi ad Udine). Ad essi è infatti proibito dai soldatini della croce rossa che gestiscono il campo, di prepararsi il cibo in autonomia. Devono però riunirsi in una mensa non riscaldata, così come le camerate da letto.
In seguito alla protesta il cibo continua ad essere di pessima qualità, ma quantomeno non arriva già avariato (larve nella carne, muffa).
Il campo è arrivato a contenere fino a 400-500 persone, anche se dopo un primo presidio fuori dalla caserma il 15 dicembre, ben 150 sono stati trasferiti verso altre città (Roma, Napoli, Torino..). A coloro che non sono stati deportati sono state imposte regole interne ancora più restrittive, come mostrare il documento e il braccialetto di riconoscimento tre volte al giorno, pena l’esclusione dai pasti. Ogni ritardo, anche di soli 5 minuti, viene sanzionato con punizioni umilianti, ad es. turni di pulizie.
Il medico del campo, che visita al massimo 10 persone al giorno per non sciuparsi troppo, rifila paracetamolo a tutti per qualsiasi problema. Un migrante è stato ricoverato in ospedale per 22 giorni, anche se prima del ricovero l’ambulanza è stata chiamata solo in seguito a ripetute proteste e con un’ora e mezzo di ritardo. Al ritorno gli è stato pure chiesto dove fosse stato (nonostante il medico dell’ospedale avesse chiamato i secondini della CR) e gli è stato riferito della sua cancellazione dal registro della struttura. Inoltre gli è stato negato il pocket money, che gli spettava di diritto, cifra che poi gli è corrisposta solo dopo diverse insistenze.
L’assistenza legale è inesistente.
Venendo all’estate del 2018, diverse persone si sono suicidate ad Udine nel circuito della così detta accoglienza: le morti sono state tutte liquidate dai media e dalla polizia come suicidi o conseguenze di autolesionismo. Almeno due di essi hanno coinvolti migranti del campo della Cavarzerani.
Si ha notizia da parte di chi vive nel campo che un ragazzo con evidenti segni di instabilità emotiva e psichica, è stato trovato impiccato nella sua stanza all’interno di una struttura; il secondo sarebbe stato prelevato dalla polizia nella notte e ritrovato la mattina seguente impiccato al grande albero davanti al cancello di ingresso.
